The Best Fish and Chips in London
Fish and Chips – it's a classic English dish that everyone wants to try during a visit to London. But great fish and chips are hard to find in Central London these days: with so much competition from other cuisines it's been squeezed hard. But you can find great fish and chips - I'll tell you where.
North Sea Fish Bar on Leigh Street (tube: King’s Cross), has huge portions but it’s not cheap, though you do get somewhere to sit and even waitress service, which is pretty rare among the fish and chip establishments of London.
Masters Superfish on Gray street near Waterloo (tube: Waterloo) isn’t exactly beautiful - in fact it's downright ugly - but the food is consistently good. Best enjoyed on a summer evening as you sit in front of the River Thames nearby, listening to the street performers.
Fryers’ Delight, on Theobald’s Road (tube: Holborn or Chancery Lane) says it offers the tastiest fish and chips in town and it's not hard to see why. It's also not hard to see why this is a Fryer's delight: there's not a thing healthy on the menu. What the heck though, it's yummy scram and not expensive. Far, far off the usual tourist routes too.
The tiny Golden Fish Bar in Farringdon looks as if it’s in imminent danger of being destroyed by the wrecker’s ball, but don’t let that fool you, it doesn’t get more authentic than this. Cheap and delicious fish, chips and mushy peas all washed down with a cup of tea make for a lovely lunchtime snack. A little off the tourist trail and the better for it. Farringdon Road. (tube: Farringdon)
Try one of these fish and chip joints and you won't be disappointed!
